Improving the quality of life

Technology isn't just a pocession

Technology isn't just a pocession

Welcome to Technology Nature Life magazine.

Sure nearly everyone wants more money, but most people soon realise there is more to life than money.

Money “may” be able to help you stay healthier, but it can’t stop you getting ill. That’s more down to lifestyle and the personal choices you make with diet, exercise and drug, alcohol and smoking abuse.

Is it an urban myth where the dieing rich guy says, “I’d give all my money for 1 hour of life more” or is it a fable to make us realise that you can’t take it with you? Well they’ve opened the Egyptian mummies tombs and they’re pretty certain any way.

Health is obviously major, but so is “quality of life”. But what does “quality of life” mean?

Creature comforts are a base point. Food, warmth, shelter, clothing. Health for sure. It’s hard to f eel good if you are in pain. But even in pain, you can always have good days and bad days, and better days, and even great days. Where even though you are in pain, you are glad to be alive.

But of course there are al sorts of facets of pain. Like mental pain;

Stress. Depression. Not feeling loved or liked. Self doubt. Lack of contentment. Lack of growth. Feeling trapped. Any of these sound familiar?

There’s no doubt that our emotions are a major part of our quality of life. We’ll look at these more in the future, and what we can do to control and improve our own world.

But modern life has stepped “outside of the self” and the spiritual you, to the “possessions of you”. Many people define a large part of themselves by what they own. What they wear. How they look. What car they drive. Where they live. And of course what toys (phone, hi-fi, home cinema) they own.

But technology isn’t just a possession…

Let me say that again. “Technology isn’t just a possession”. A lot of it is part of how we communicate and how we express ourselves. Strangely how we express and reveal our spirtual self.

Take the Internet for example. As well as meeting people in person, we can email and instant message and “communicate” with friends and family, as well as strangers half way across he world. IF we have something to say, this Internet technology let’s us say it.

Now let’s take photography. With this photographic technology we can take a picture, a snapshot of our lives, or what is important to us, of us, and share that with who ever we choose. A picture says a thousand words.

OK let’s take the technology of words. The what?

The technology of words includes our computer word processor (for writing letters, stories, poems, books, etc.). The Internet with email and chat as we already mentioned, but let’s add web publishing like blogs and websites now too. The mobile phone with SMS text messages (and mobile email), the phone and our voice (still words, just spoken). We could be arty and also say there are invisible words. Hidden meaning and sub text that accompany other art forms, like photographs, and drawing and paintings and (instrumental) music.

So we use technology a lot to deliver and express our words. hence the technology of words.

There’s also a lot of creative technology that we can use in (and as) art forms, for making films and movies, creating cartoons and animations, creating our own games and virtual environments (aka Second Life), for composing music and songs. For creating digital visual art in various forms.

The list goes in, but I shouldn’t…

So we can see we have a synergy of technology and life where technology isn’t just possessions. It is a part of who we are, spiritually, not in monetary terms.

Naturally, this is a journey that Technology Nature Life magazine intends to explore. To bring you the best and most innovative and creative of integrations.

We hope you enjoy the journey.

Peter.
